Recent crises in the Middle East and North Africa (coups, electoral violence, revolutions and uprisings) are increasingly being addressed in innovative and complex ways. While the point of departure for each country is starkly different, the emerging norm is for complex political transitions. This course examines the mechanics of transition through a comparative approach and scrutinizes the roles of the African Union, the League of Arab Nations, and the United Nations.
