This course examines slave-like labor exploitation that persists in the world today-human trafficking, bonded labor, forced labor and child labor. These modes of labor exploitation will be analyzed, as well as the legal, policy, and civil society responses to the offences. Forces that promote human trafficking will be investigated, including similarities and differences from one region, industry, or typology to another. We will explore the economic, cultural, historic, religious, and gender-based facets of modern slavery. This course will meet for 8 weeks only. Lecture will run from Jan. 21 through March 10, 2016.
